3 Early Trends in Utility Rebate Programs for 2018

Here at Encentiv Energy, we live and breathe utility rebate program information. Each day our entire database is analyzed to make sure our users are getting the most up-to-date information for utility programs across the U.S. and Canada.

Since the beginning of the year, we have been noticing some early trends in utility programs (almost half of all utilities update their programs in January so there are always a lot of changes during this time!). Steve Bolibruck, Director of Technical Services at Encentiv Energy, calls out what he’s been seeing and how it will shape the future of energy efficiency rebates.

Trends:

  1. Addition of midstream programs
  2. Expanding categories beyond Energy Saved. Instead of having to just list wattages for lighting, more and more utility programs are looking at lumen output and efficacy.
  3. Different rebate rates based on lighting performance (tier 1, tier 2, etc.)

Utility customers trying to get these rebates will have more opportunity, but additional knowledge and project information will be needed to participate.
