2024 Midyear Utility Commercial Rebate Trends

We are supplementing our Annual Rebate Trend Analysis and webinar with a midyear look at changes in Commercial LED, Lighting Controls, HVAC, and HVAC Controls & Ventilation programs from UtilityGenius. This analysis covers changes in major programs from mid-March 2024 to July 31, 2024.

Trending Up

General trends for each technology are outlined below. Follow the links to our UtilityGenius Blog to learn more about the program breakdowns and rebate trends for each technology type.

  • LED Lighting: The general trend continues. Increases in LED rebates continue to outpace decreases.  We continue to see strong support for LED rebates in the business sector.  The increases in the mid-year analysis are primarily affecting fixtures more than lamps.
  • Lighting Controls: NLCs are seeing increases in the rebates utilities offer for them, sometimes requiring DLC listing or a minimum number of control strategies implemented to qualify for the incentives. Basic Controls are also experiencing increases in their utility rebates. Although occupancy sensors have traditionally seen broader coverage, Daylight sensors are increasing in program coverage.
  • HVAC: The general trend intensifies! Increases in HVAC rebates continue to outpace decreases.  We continue to see strong support for HVAC rebates in the business sector.  The increases in the midyear analysis are primarily affecting Heat Pumps more than traditional air conditioning.
  • HVAC Controls & Ventilation:  HVAC units, themselves, are traditionally well covered by utility rebate programs, but the ancillary technologies that can provide additional efficiencies through controls and ventilation upgrades are also becoming increasingly more covered by utilities. This analysis focuses on WiFi thermostats, Advanced Rooftop Controls, Demand Controlled Ventilation, and Energy Recovery Ventilation.

We will kick off our next program analysis in early 2025, leading up to our Annual Program Trends Webinar. Be sure to keep an eye on our blog and sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know about this and other events from Encentiv & UtilityGenius!
