Ohio and Pennsylvania Customers: Are you taking advantage of PJM incentives?

Written by Ashley Garia | July 24, 2014

There is a lot of talk about local utility rebates as incentives for energy-efficiency projects, but did you know you can also receive rewards from PJM? To learn more about PJM incentives, click here.

PJM incentives are available to customers throughout the entire PJM territory, but let’s take a moment to focus specifically on First Energy Ohio and Penn Power utility customers.

Why are First Energy Ohio and Penn Power customers important? For this coming year (2015/2016), PJM-eligible projects in this zone are worth approximately 2–2.5 times more than projects of the same size located in other PJM zones.

So what does that mean for you? Let's look at an example.

A furniture store in Ohio replaced 39 watt CHM lamps with 14.3 watt LEDs in 2013. This lighting project resulted in an energy savings of 38.2 kilowatts (kW) and allowed them to take advantage of both local mercantile utility rebates and PJM incentives.

Encentiv Energy was able to take the project paperwork that had already been submitted for a mercantile utility rebate and process it for PJM incentives as well. In total, this customer will receive an additional $2,801—with no additional work required—because we already had their project information in-house.

This works out to be more than the customer would have received had their store been located in another zone.

How it would compare:

38.2 kW project in Penn Power or First Energy Ohio: $2,801
38.2 kW project in MetEd, Penelec, PPL or PECO: $2,163
38.2 kW project in Western Ohio, Duquesne Light or West Penn Power: $1,778
